Internet Roulette
Roulette is one of the most glamorized casino games in the world. The game has spawned countless movies and stories depicting characters walking up to the roulette wheel and "betting it all on black."
With the huge casino success that Roulette has proven to be, it's no surprise that Internet Roulette is also very popular. Play Roulette on the Internet let you play the game right from the comfort of your own home. It is also a great way to practice, as most Internet Casinos let you play for free or for real money.
A big part of Internet roulette's popularity stems from its simple rules and high payout rates. This is one of the easiest games for casino goers to figure out and potentially win very large amounts of money. A $1,000 bet could easily net someone a $35,000 payday - enough to buy a nice car.
Roulette Rules
The rules of the game are simple. The roulette wheel is divided into 36 sections. Each section is labeled with a number 1 - 36 and a color of either red or black. There is also a section reserved for 0 and, on some versions, an additional section reserved for double zero or 00.
The green zero space is where the house gets its advantage. All payouts are made as if there were 36 spaces on the roulette wheel instead of 37. If a player bets on red, the payout odds are 1 to 1 but the additional green slot makes it slightly less likely than 50% that the ball lands on red.
Players place bets on certain numbers, combinations of numbers and colors. The wheel is then spun and a ball dropped into the middle. When the wheel comes to a rest, the ball lands in one the slots and the winners are paid. The more long shot players' bets are, the higher the payouts are. A bet on a specific number, for example, gives a payout of 35 to 1. A bet on "red" gives a payout of 2 to 1.
American vs. European Roulette Wheels
American roulette wheels have an additional spot on the wheel known as double zero or 00. This extra spot functions the same way as the first green zero except that it significantly increases the house's edge. Avoid American roulette wheels when possible.
Roulette Bets
Players indicate which bet they would like to place by placing chips on the felt roulette layout table. The odds in this chart are based on the European style roulette wheel.

Popular Internet Roulette Myths
Ever since the first roulette wheels appeared in casinos, people have come up with all sorts of crazy ideas about the game. Many of these ideas come in the form of betting systems that supposedly give gamblers an edge in the game.
Just know that the 0 and 00 spots on the roulette wheel represent an unbeatable house advantage. There are no betting systems in the world that can overcome this advantage - it's mathematically impossible. This is the case whether you are playing in Vegas or playing on the Internet.
The Martingale Betting Strategy
This is one of the most widespread gambling myths in the world, and it doesn't only pertain to Internet Roulette. The strategy of the Martingale system is to double one's bet after each loss. The idea behind this is that eventually one of the bets will win and the gambler will win back all of his profits plus a little extra money.
The first problem with this strategy is that the house edge always exists. It doesn't matter how or how much a player has bet before; each spin is an independent event and subject to the same house advantage. It is possible for players to experience simple variance and win a few bets while using this system, but eventually the gambler will lose all of his money and winnings.
Casinos are all about odds, and if this myth happen to be true, then the casinos would be out of business which clearly isn't the case.
Hot Numbers / Cold Numbers
This myth is common across a wide range of casino games and is just as incorrect as every other "strategy." The hot numbers / cold numbers strategy is where roulette players bet on numbers that have proven themselves to be "hot" by hitting several times recently. Other players may wait for cold numbers that are "due" to hit sometime soon.
Again, the problem with this system is that the house edge always exists no matter what has happened in the recent past. Roulette wheels are regularly checked for complete randomness so there is no numbers bias that one could exploit. Additionally, numbers can't become "hot" or "cold" because every spin of the roulette wheel is just as random as the one before it. Roulette balls don't have brains so they can't remember where they landed last or where they are due to land.
There are plenty of other gambling myths and strategies but none of them work. Always remember that Internet roulette is a form of entertainment and the price of that entertainment is the house edge. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win but the house always has the advantage in the end.
